Weight Loss Motivation

Weight Loss Motivation

You’ve decided it’s time to take off those extra pounds. It doesn’t really matter how they got there, or why you want them gone now. It’s just time. Most people make the commitment to lose weight twice a year, once around the New Year, and again as summer approaches. Most people are not successful. Why? Because they lack weight loss motivation. It is nearly impossible to lose weight or accomplish any big goal, without proper and on-going motivation.

So, where does weight loss motivation come from?

First and foremost, it must come from within. Deciding to lose weight because your partner wants you to, or because you want to look like Beyonce or Matthew McConaughey is fine, except it probably won’t work too well. Your weight loss motivation must start with you. Your reason for losing weight must be that you sincerely want to do this for yourself. Once you’ve established this, you need to add healthy motivators to your arsenal.

Here are some ways to find motivation and inspiration:

Make your weight loss goals attainable.

If you need to lose 100 lbs, you are not going to do it in a month, regardless of what the infomercials tell you. But if your goal is to lose 8 to 10 lbs a month resulting in losing the whole 100 lbs in about a year, that’s very realistic and you will find it much easier to attain weight loss success.

Use visualization as a tool.

Visualization is a wonderful inspirational tool that can help you achieve any type of goal, not just weight loss. Every day when you wake up, take time to close your eyes and create a mental image of yourself as you lose weight. How will you look in one month? How will you look in six months? In a year? Take time to see all the details. The size tags on your clothes, the bathing suit you will be able to wear, and the tailored suit or fitted dress. You can do this by writing the details in a journal as well.

Adopt the healthy habits of people who are at the weight and fitness level you admire (within reason of course).

Matthew McConaughey and Beyonce probably each workout for several hours every week. That may not be realistic for you. But you can still increase your exercise and employ eating habits that are healthy. Maybe you don’t want to give up the sugary treats and get on the treadmill. But it is a simple fact that slim people are slim because they get more exercise and eat healthier. Emulate those good slim habits.

Joining a weight loss group.

Joining a weight loss group is a fantastic way to get plenty of weight loss inspiration. You can share triumphs and you can also give each other moral support. You will hear of other’s weight loss successes and gain inspiration from them. Weight loss groups can be the kind where you attend regular meetings or they can be virtual groups that you join online.

Join a gym.

For some, spending the money on a gym membership is enough motivation to go and workout on a regular basis. If you want to join a gym, make sure you make use of the membership. Cardio and strength training are one of the best ways to lose weight and get in great shape. Besides, you can see others at all levels of fitness at the gym from beginner to advanced. It’s inspiring to see all those other people working to accomplish the same goals that you have.

Other ways to stay inspired and motivated.

Other ways to keep yourself inspired and motivated might include having a friend to exercise with so that when one of you is feeling lazy, the other can be the motivator. You can also place photos of yourself when you were slim where you can see them every day. If you were never slim, find a nice photo of someone who is and put it on the refrigerator or in another conspicuous spot. Other ways to self-motivate could be to keep a journal of how you are feeling, what you are eating, and what kinds of exercise you’ve done each day. Make sure that when you accomplish a goal, whether it’s one pound or one jeans size that you give yourself the credit you deserve for sticking to it.

The process of losing weight can be an inspiring experience when you see that you have the power to creatively find motivation and change your life. Once you decide that you want to lose weight for your own sake, you’re on the right path. Remember that weight loss inspiration and motivation begins with you. Find the techniques that work best for you, and remember to honor your successes. Good luck!

Weight Loss Inspiration

Weight Loss Inspiration – Let It Be A Healthier Lifestyle

Finding the weight loss inspiration to diet and get into better shape will influence much more than just the extent of your waistline – it will be an investment into a healthier, happier life. Your health and fitness really influences every aspect of your life, from your self-confidence to your relationships with other people, to your job prospects, to your everyday finances.

Be under no illusions, the more out of shape and unhealthy you become, the more you will notice that “dis-ease” is spreading into other areas of your life. It may not happen straight away, but over time it will spread into your life and the effects are unavoidable. The worst thing about this is – you almost certainly will not even notice it’s occurring! When this ‘dis-ease’ sneaks in, it becomes harder and harder to raise the weight loss inspiration and diet motivation necessary to change your ways. In fact you may find it difficult to find the inspiration and motivation to do anything!

Weight Loss Inspiration – This Is It!
Coming To a genuine, determined decision to lose weight, get more fit, adjust your lifestyle and enhance your health will be one of the most powerful life-affecting decisions you could possibly make. Coming to a decision on this basis is much more likely to create the weight loss inspiration and diet motivation to achieve success.

The biggest problem is that the vast majority of people look at weight loss for reasons of vanity. Now I don’t mean to suggest that it’s wrong to want to look good, but is vanity a strong enough motive behind your choice to lose weight when there are so many much more vital things you could choose to consider? Is vanity really going to keep you motivated for more than a week or two? Will vanity be enough to keep you motivated when the going gets hard and your willpower is seriously tested?

The likelihood is that if you do not have a very genuine, compelling NEED to lose weight, you may not have the stamina needed to stick with the program and accomplish your goal.

Weight Loss Inspiration – Create Your Desire To Lose Weight

Instead of looking to your vanity as the main reason for your weight loss inspiration, why not seek out something with more far-reaching benefits? Beginning right now, write a list and see how many powerful, worthwhile reasons you can come up with which will ignite your weight loss inspiration and drive your motivation to lose weight and get into better shape. By all means start with a desire to look good, but don’t stop there.

Here is a list of suggestions you might like to consider:

How about being there for your child on his/her wedding day?

How about ensuring you are there for your child on his/her graduation day?

How about being around to play with your grandchildren?

What about being strong and healthy enough to truly enjoy your life for the next 20, 40, 60 years?

What about having the energy to excel in your job and earn much more income?

How about having the strength to make a genuine difference in the world?

All of the reasons above are, in their own right, incredibly inspiring if you just think about them for a while. Finding genuinely powerful reasons such as these will ignite your weight loss inspiration. You will then realise the diet motivation to allow you to look at that slice of cake being offered to you and instead of thinking “this little slice won’t hurt” you will think, “I don’t need that – my reason for losing weight and changing my lifestyle is much more important”.

To be really involved in a healthy lifestyle you should keep reminding yourself why you are doing it.Either your quality of life is a treasure worth investing in for the long term, or it isn’t. It’s your decision – and once you have made up your mind to go for it, finding the motivation to take the actions necessary to support your decision will be much easier.

Weight Loss Inspiration

Finding the right inspiration to diet and get into better shape will influence much more than just the extent of your waistline – it will be an investment into a healthier and happier life. Your health and fitness really influences every aspect of your life, from your self-confidence to your relationships with other people, to your job prospects, to your everyday finances.

This weight loss inspiration is found in a variety of ways. Some people find it online, via social communities and “loose weight” centers. This same type of support is also found at locations nearby where you can meet with others face to face.

If it seems like your weight loss inspiration gets killed every time a new diet program or pill comes out, you’re not alone. Confusion among dieters about the options available to them is one reason diets fail so often.

You may be losing your inspiration because burning fat is sometimes a tedious process. This may go contrary to beliefs, yours or others. However, fact is truth, and proof lies in the reality that nearly anyone measured over time manages to lose weight and keep it off by doing two things – physical and intellectual.

The easiest tool you can use is a Vision Board, a visual representation of where you want to be at the end of your journey and how you are going to get there. To create one, cut pictures out of fitness magazines, print out inspirational quotes, pictures of healthy, vibrant people, or yourself at an ideal weight and fitness level. Paste everything on a poster board, your mirror, or the refrigerator and look at it often. This will keep you motivated to keep going every day.

Joining a group is for sure a fantastic way to get plenty of weight loss inspiration. You can share triumphs and you can also give each other moral support within the group. You will hear of others successes and gain inspiration and advice from them. Weight loss groups can be the kind where you attend regular meetings or they can be virtual groups that you join online.

Good luck! YOU will be the weight loss inspiration for others.

Road to Weight Loss

Road to Weight Loss (Part 6 of 6)

Today is the end of our 6 week healthy living and weight loss series designed to put you in charge of your own weight loss journey. Non gimmicky and geared to today’s savvy consumer, you now have valuable tools and insight, that when applied, will propel you not only to significant weight loss but a more healthy, energetic and carefree lifestyle.

Not seen in traditional weight loss programs, these 5 principles, when applied, are more effective and long lasting than traditional dieting practices we read and hear about in mainstream media today.

A review: Five mind connections for weight loss.

1. Use movement for inspiration

2. Think progress not perfection

3. Focus on what matters

4. Stay aware. Weigh daily.

5. Live life joyfully

We end our series by exploring this last connection-live life joyfully.

How our realities are shaped. The NYC Metropolitan Museum of Art has an exhibit on how movies affect our reality. I have not seen it yet, but can only imagine that it has to do with how our realities are shaped by what we see, and in turn how we interpret these realities into our own lives.

Today, an increasing number of consumers are choosing to limit their viewing of today’s news and instead are opting for more favorable activities that emote positive emotions. And many people, including myself, believe the creation of positive living environments is essential to initiating changes in our own lives.

In the past, I disregarded this type of thinking and instead opted for a more staunch position that no one can alter my emotions except myself. Some people today have a similar stance. Unfortunately, such an uncompromising demeanor places one at a severe disadvantage when aiming to live a more lean and energetic lifestyle.

Emotions are affected by environment. Scientists know emotions are affected by surroundings. It’s now clear scientifically that we can alter a healthier state of mind through positive thinking, and brain rewiring. I am not referring to Pollyanna behaviors where one may get run over by a truck and instantly see the positive points of being flattened by tons of metal! I’m referring to scientific data indicating how we may rewire our brain circuits to alter a multitude of habits. As of lately with books like The BrainThat Changes Itself by Norman Doidge, M.D. and Perception, Memory and Emotion: Frontiers in Neuroscience edited by T. Ono, health professionals, including myself, are taking the brain circuit and positive emotion behavior change theory more seriously.

I’ve implemented positive emotions and joyful living successfully not only on myself, but on people I coach in creating more healthful meaningful lives. It now forms the basis of my coaching. I no longer avoid the idea of positive psychology and joyful living as a gimmicky self help approach, but instead have learned this is the best approach for bringing about change.

Positive psychology gets a bad rap. Some people still believe adherents to positive psychology simply add positive words to their vocabulary, and eliminate negativity in their environments to invoke behavior change. Perhaps this is why positive psychology advocates often receive a bad reputation. Positive psychology like many concepts is part of a much broader manner of being. It may start out as simply changing thoughts from the negative to the positive, such as replacing the words, “I cannot pass up a donut at the office because everyone is eating them” to “I can pass up this donut at the office because I have the capacity to do so.” In actuality, the use of positive psychology is constantly evolving as the person is able to handle more difficult challenges.

Weight loss is about engaging the right brain. Here, an example of how positive living can play an instrumental part in weight loss success. One client of mine that has made rapid strides in weight reduction was at a standstill. He was intuitive and knew what was getting in his way of continuing to lose weight, but he wasn’t taking the leap to the next level. A positive approach to this as a health coach is to be patient and stay with him as he figures it out. The best approach at his particular stage was not to offer analytical left brain-advice (he has heard all the dieting techniques and has followed the advice) but to offer inspirational right-brain thinking.

Living joyfully regardless of starting point.

Allowing this client to figure it out in an environment that doesn’t dampen his spirit is best. This is where living joyfully regardless of where we are starting from is most important. As a coach, positive approaches might include filling the gaps of information but more often they include approaches that initiate right- brained creative thinking, and less analytical left- brain thinking. It is true, weight loss requires analytical thinking, but to move beyond sticking points in our weight loss journey, we must engage the more emotive right brain side. Helping th

Exercise for Beginners

Exercise for Beginners – 5 Tips for Weight Loss Inspiration

Starting out on a weight loss journey is never an easy task for anyone. Whether you are just trying to shed the few extra pounds you gained from childbirth or you are trying to lose a significant amount of weight, the dilemma is often the same for both categories of dieters.

Some people find it relatively easy to shed weight while for others, it is an uphill task. Succeeding in the battle to lose weight takes lots of discipline. While there are no hard and fast rules for losing weight, there are some basic principles that ring true for most weight loss methods.

So, if you find yourself in either of the two scenarios depicted above, then this article is for you. To really jump start your weight loss journey, here are five tips to follow:

(a) Don’t depend on diet alone for weight loss plan. Many dieters believe that merely dieting will give them the desired results but from both personal experience and from the perspective of medical science, a combination of diet and exercise has been proven to be more effective than just dieting alone. Incorporating a workout plan into your weight loss plan, no matter how modest, will kick-start the process and will give better results.

(b) Set realistic weight loss goals. It is important to state how much weight you want to lose and then set a plan of action on how to achieve it. However, your goals should be realistic ones that are achievable. For instance, don’t set out to lose 20 pounds in a week. It’s unrealistic and any weight loss methods that promise this must be avoided because it is unsafe and could potentially cause health problems.

(c) Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see desired results. Nothing good ever comes easy and if you don’t see the kind of results you want in the first few weeks, don’t give up. Keep to your workout routine and sooner or later, you will see the results when you step on your bathroom scales.

(d) Set a time frame to work out or you may never get around to it. Pick out a given time and day(s) of the week to workout. If you fail to do so, you just might never get started but with a workout schedule built into your to-do list, you are more likely to get it started. Since you’re just starting out, it’s kind of similar to teaching yourself to pick up a new habit which, in this case, is exercise.

(e) Be consistent with your workout. Consistency is the name of the game. Keep at it until you see tangible results. The pounds you will lose in the first weeks might take time to reflect on your bathroom scales but don’t despair. Stick to your regimen of exercise and it will only be a matter of time before the results are visible enough for everyone to see.

Inspirational Scriptures

7 Powerful Inspirational Scriptures For Christian Weight Loss

Renewing your mind is a key concept in Christian weight loss. One reason people fail in losing weight is attempting to pile new behaviors on top of an old mindset. Sooner or later, your old mindset convinces you to quit and you wind up in the same shape as before or even worse. Meditating on inspirational scriptures consistently is one way you can renew your mind to God’s higher purpose for your life, which will help you make wiser decisions in all areas, including your health.

Here are some of the scriptures I used to renew my mind as I started my own 85-pound weight loss journey and implemented Christian weight loss principles into my life:

Psalm 107:9: “For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.”
Isaiah 40:31: “Those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
Romans 14:17: “…for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”
Philippians 1:6: “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Hebrews 12:11: “All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.”
3 John 1:2: “Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.”

Even before you start your own weight loss journey, begin to meditate on the above scriptures to put this key Christian weight loss principle into practice. In your prayer time, ask God to show you how to apply this wisdom to your daily life. I recommend that you write these scriptures on index cards and review them regularly throughout the day. Keep them in sight so that they stay in mind.

When you renew your mind and practice healthy habits consistently, you will experience more peace and balance in your life, and reach your perfect weight.
